12s win crucial clash
The under-12s produced their finest display of the season to beat table-topping Bishopston, at Ashleigh Road. The 3-1 win keeps Dunvant in the hunt for the league title and provided ample revenge for the team's only defeat, of the season so far, at the hands of Bishopston in September.
After a scrappy opening quarter, the Yellow and Greens took the lead with the first quality movement of the match. Dylan Bebb found space and beat two defenders before picking out Toby Merchant in the box. Merchant calmly side-stepped the final defender and drilled home from 12yds.
Dunvant were good value for their 1-0 interval lead and they doubled their advantage shortly afterwards. Bebb again played an incisive ball into the area and Merchant's dummy baffled the Bishopston keeper, allowing the ball to trickle home. The Blues then narrowed the gap with a counter-attack goal but there was no way back. Luke Thomas's clever through ball was pounced upon by Leo Burdett and the winger rounded the onrushing keeper to slot home beautifully.
A gritty second half display laid the platform for this crucial victory and the team can look ahead to the second half of the season with renewed confidence.
