Brave effort not rewarded
Dunvant's under-15s lost narrowly at home to Birchgrove in a hotly contested match. The top-of-table clash was keenly contested between two evenly matched sides and, despite the appalling behaviour of the visiting coaches and supporters, the Dunvant boys played superbly. Having defended strongly in the opening quarter, the hosts began to dominate midfield possession and were rewarded with the opening goal. Skipper Jonathan Bebb powered into the box, shrugged off three defenders and angled his finish over the line, via the far post.
Leading at the break, the Yellow and Greens made a good start to the second period and were comfortably defending their advantage despite serious pressure from the visitors. However a fine piece of skill, by the Birchgrove striker, unlocked the Dunvant defence for an equaliser. The visitors sensed that the momentum was theirs and, shortly after, a magnificent strike high into the net saw them take the lead and, ultimately all three points.
Defeat was harsh on the Dunvant boys who matched the league leaders in most departments and would have been good value for a draw. The performance suggested that they can certainly compete with the better teams and can continue to hold their position in the the league
