Heartbreak for 13s against Mumbles

The Under13s slipped to a cruel defeat with the last kick of the game after an exciting encounter, at Dukefield.  On balance, a draw would have been a fair result but Mumbles took advantage of their superiority, in the final quarter, to claim all three points.

The first half saw the Yellow and Greens claim a deserved 2-0 lead.  Excellent interplay in the middle of the field saw the hosts dominate possession with skipper Iwan Preddy and winger Leo Burdett prominent.  Midway through the half, striker Dylan Bebb received the ball near the halfway line, advanced and rifled a 30yd rocket into the top corner.  With the crowd still buzzing, Bebb was at it again.  Spinning away from his defender, onto Toby Merchant's pass, Bebb found the top corner, again, from outside the box with another laser-guided strike.

Dunvant carried their two goal advantage into the second period but soon started surrendering possession and were under pressure.  Almost inevitably, Mumbles clawed a goal back and were level with 8 minutes remaining.  Despite some good work, between the posts, by keeper Ethan Dacey-Davies, Dunvant snatched defeat from the jaws of victory at the death.

The quality of the play was, again, pleasing but victories are proving to be hard to claim in this competitive league. Dunvant are becoming the bridesmaids of the division without becoming the bride and a greater steel will be needed in the weeks to come if they are to hold their own in the league table.
