Winning start for the U13s
Dunvant 3Crosses 1 Garden Village 0
A superb volley from midfielder Luke Thomas was enough to secure all three points for the Under-13s, in their opening Division B clash against Garden Village. Despite having most of the possession, and all the best chances, the home side were unable to extend their lead against niggly, cynical opponents but would have been pleased to get the season underway successfully.
After a quiet opening, the Yellow anf Greens created several good openings only to find the Village keeper in great form. An injury to lively winger Joseff Rowlands hampered their progress a little but the chances kept coming up until the interval, without success.
From the restart, the Dunvant boys looked keep to break the deadlock and came agonisingly close when Dylan Bebb's effort narrowly went wide. Shortly after, however, Bebb escaped down the right wing and sent an inch perfect cross into the area for Thomas to volley acrobatically into the roof of the net.
Skipper Iwan Preddy kept a firm control of the midfield throughout and fullbacks Eoin Parke and Sam Davies both turned in eye-catching displays.
The warm weather took much of the sting out of the game, in the final quarter, but a solid defensive effort secured a clean sheet and the three points.
